Prof. Dr. Georg G. Iggers: Every history can only present a partial reconstruction of the past I N T E RV I E W B Y DR . P OL A T S A F İ saf i@bilkent.edu.tr You argue that from the 1870s onwards, historical studies underwent a characteristically “nineteenth-century process of professionalization”, which ended in an overall “increasing ideologization of historical writing”. It is certain that throughout the nineteenth century, historical works focused on nation-state politics and this trend was challenged in time by social-scientiic history -the Annales in France or the neo-Weberian social history in Germany-. Studies of Daniel Woolf and Donald Kelley, on the other hand, point to an almost identical shit in history writing in the early modern period. Early modern humanists in France, like Baudouin and La Popeliniere for example, were also complaining about histories written under the inluence of national pride, manipulating primary sources to it them into their overall narrative of the glorious past of their nations. 22/6F/270 Abstract:The collection contains correspondence, course files, and class registers of Dr. Georg G. Iggers. The bulk of the material dates from his time at the University at Buffalo. Series I contains correspondence from the years 1955-1984 (bulk 1967-1984). Series II consists of correspondence between the years 1985-2007 (bulk 1985-1999). The correspondence includes letters from graduate students, professional colleagues, publishers, and organizations, filed alphabetically by name of correspondent or subject (e.g. Philander Smith College or Grants). It also includes both incoming letters and carbon copies or handwritten drafts of letters by Iggers. Folders labeled “Annual Report (family)” contain Iggers family newsletters. Series III consists of course files and class registers from the years 1959-1998
