Polly has successfully created a sense of community throughout Western Pennsylvania, both as our Navy Ombudsman and as a citizen of the Steel City.     Scott A. Benning entered the Naval Service June 22, 1983.  Upon graduation of basic training in Orlando, he attended SK ‘A’ School in Meridian, Mississippi. Upon completion he was assigned as a Storekeeper to the Naval Ocean Processing Facility, Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

    In May 1986 he was assigned to USS COMTE DE GRASSE (DD 974) Norfolk, Virginia as the S-1 Division Leading Petty Officer. During this tour he obtained his Enlisted Surface Warfare qualifications.  Following this tour in July 1989, he was assigned to Underwater Construction Team One, Little Creek, Virginia Beach, Virginia as the Supply Officer and Food Service Officer. During this tour he was selected twice as the Shore Sailor of the year and was selected to represent Commander Seabee Forces Atlantic as the Type Commander Shore Sailor of the Year. He also obtained his Seabee Combat Warfare qualifications.

    In August 1992, he was assigned to USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44), Little Creek, Virginia Beach, Virginia as the Stores Division Leading Petty Officer. Once again he was selected as the Sailor of the Year and selected to represent COMPHIBRON 4 (MARG 1-93) as the Sailor of the Year.  During this tour he was selected to Chief Petty Officer and Sen
