Bazelli studied at Famu Film School in Prague. Impressed with one of Bazelli’s student films, director Abel Ferrara hired Bazelli to shoot China Girl in New York City. He subsequently filmed King of New York and Body Snatchers with Ferrara as well.
Bazelli received an Independent Spirit Awards in 1990 for his work on King of New York. He was honored for Best Cinematography in both 1996 and 1998 at the American Independent Commercial Producers (AICP), one of the few cinematographers to have received this honor twice. Bazelli also received a Gold Clio for Best Cinematography in 1998, and the film Kalifornia was awarded Best Cinematography at the Montreal Film Festival.

Bojan Bazelli
Bojan Bazelli is a world renowned cinematographer and music video director. He became a member of the American Society of Cinematographers in 2007. He is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Bazelli was born in Herceg Novi, Montenegro (then in Yugoslavia) on 15th August 1957, and his star sign is Leo. His father was a doctor and he spent his childhood and completed his high school in his hometown. As a child, he used to take pictures from his father's camera and had converted his mother's pantry into a dark room.
He got interested in filmmaking and had decided that he would go to a film school to learn the art of filmmaking and cinematography. In 1985, Bazelli graduated from Prague's Film and TV School. His journey in film industry began in 1987 with "China Girl" in New York. The film's director Abel Ferrara hired him straight out of film school after being impressed by one of his student films. When contacted for the first time for "China Girl", he thought it was a joke and ignored it, however later he found out that he was tracked down from his film school by an agent of Ferrara.
