The assassination of Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan, an Iranian academic and nuclear scientist who is believed to have worked in a senior procurement role in the country's Natanz uranium enrichment facility, has seemingly convinced the world of what it likely knew already: Iran's nuclear programme is under attack.
The last two years or so has seen a string of incidents that have delayed, disabled, or destroyed components of Iran's nuclear infrastructure. Ahmani-Roshan was targeted by two men on a motorcycle who placed a magnetic explosive device on his car as he sat in traffic. Since January , three other Iranian scientists associated with the country's nuclear programme have been targeted in exactly the same way. Two of those scientists were killed and the third was injured but survived; that man, Fereydoon Abassi-Davani, is now the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation.
It is not only individual scientists who are believed to have been targeted.
